Emberfall Chronicles

★★★★★ 4.5 Editor rating

Emberfall Chronicles leans into story more than most mobile RPGs dare to. The writing has personality, your companions bicker and grow, and the turn-based combat rewards planning over spamming attacks. I didn't expect to care about a pixel healer named Doro, but here we are.

Battles use a positioning system — where you stand changes what you can hit and who can hit you — so fights feel more like small puzzles than stat checks. Levelling is generous, and you rarely hit a brick wall that forces a slog.

The one downside is that it's heavier than a quick-session game, so it's better for the couch than the queue at the shop. If you want a proper adventure on your phone, this is a strong pick.
